Nearly six in 10 Americans are now connected to the Internet wirelessly via a Wi-Fi connection, mobile broadband card or cellphone, compared to about half at this point last year, according to a report from Pew Internet.

While 11 percent of adults have made a charitable donation by text message, 19 percent of adults ages 18 to 29 have done so, most likely a reflection of calls for text-message donations to Haiti last year.

“This speaks to the power of mobile technologies to encourage real-world action by a generation that is low on economic resources but still interested in making a difference,” said Aaron Smith, a research specialist at Pew.
